Work from Home Mom Jobs

7 Online Jobs That are Perfect for Stay-at-Home Parents with Young Kids

If you are a stay-at-home parent, particularly with young kids, you may be wondering how you can earn some money while still have the flexibility to care for your children. Or you may already have a part-time job but are looking for easy ways to supplement your existing income (also known as a side hustle).

Well, there’s good news! With all the improvements in technology over the years, there are more and more opportunities for work from home mom jobs to make money online and on your own time. Stay-at-home moms and dads all over the country do this kind of flexible remote work, and you can become one of them!

Here are a few of my top favorite work from home jobs:

1. Parent Blogger or Writer

You may have heard of – or even gotten advice from – mom or dad blogs. These are blogs focused on issues around being a parent, taking care of kids, etc. It’s not easy to become a “famous” parent blogger, but over time you can build a solid following if you post regularly and engage with readers, start an email list, and promote your content on social media (especially Instagram and Pinterest). There are a number of ways to make money from your blog, including allowing ads and doing affiliate marketing (see #2 below), but again be aware that it will take time to make money. If you have a passion for writing and sharing your expertise with fellow parents, that should be your main motivation for starting a parenting blog.

While building up your own blog, you could also get work as a freelance writer or blogger for someone with an established blog or online magazine. There are countless parenting blogs out there, but you can start with a list like this to help you get your writing out there. You can also write a guest post for a blog you like to start getting some exposure. This typically isn’t a paid gig, but it will link back to your own blog.

If you know your way around a phone or webcam and enjoy some light editing, you can supplement your blog content with videos. These can be an easy and engaging way to connect with a larger audience who might prefer to watch or listen rather than read.

2. Affiliate Marketer

Once you start building an audience with your blog or YouTube channel, you can start promoting specific products using affiliate links, and you will receive a small commission for each purchase. This is especially great if you are always up on the hot new products for moms, toys and gadgets for kids, services for busy parents, and more. Popular sites for affiliate marketing include Amazon, Target, Walmart, and probably just about any major store you shop at. Learn more about getting started with affiliate marketing. Again, this will take time to make money with, but just like your blog, it will grow with time and patience.

This isn’t quite the same as sponsored posts, since those involve companies directly paying you (or providing you with free merch) to post for them. Which leads us to…

3. Brand Ambassador or Influencer

If you love being on social media and have a decent following and engagement, particularly on sites popular with moms like Instagram and Pinterest, you might consider becoming an influencer or brand ambassador. Chances are you already post about brands that you like, such as your favorite stroller. As a brand ambassador or influencer, you can get paid to review products and help other people to learn about them. This process also takes some time. Learn more about how to get started as a brand ambassador.

4. Parenting Coach, Tutor, Consultant, Online Course Creator

If you enjoy teaching others a new skill, you can become a coach or tutor. There are endless possibilities for this for parents, from teaching a kid-friendly class online to becoming a parenting coach if you already have good experience as one yourself– you may know people who could use a service like this!

Additionally, if you have skills in a particular area that you may have worked in for a long time before you had kids, you don’t have to give that up completely. You can be hired for your expertise as a consultant, where you’ll be able to work flexible hours but still do what you enjoy and are good at. If you still have connections from your previous employment, ask around to find out about potential opportunities.

5. Shop Owner of Items for Kids (Amazon, Etsy, eBay, etc.)

These days, just about anyone can start any kind of business by putting their offerings online. If you have a passion for kids’ toys, or curating together kid-friendly items, you can sell these in your own Etsy, Amazon, or eBay store. This is a great way to be creative but also make some money too.

6. Sell Photos

If you’re good with a camera and enjoy taking photos, you can become a freelance photographer or take photos to sell online as stock photos. Websites and blogs are always looking for cheap or free stock photos to use, so this could be an opportunity if this is your skill set. Check out some stock photo websites.

7. Freelancer (various)

If you have skills in writing, graphic or web design, social media management and more, you can translate these skills into freelance work, especially for companies and sites that promote parenting or kid-friendly content. Ask people you know or local companies if they need any kind of help like this, or find many possibilities online.

What fun and easy ways to make money online have you found?
